If you had any doubts about Queens' growing cachet as a formidable beer borough, this event is definitely going to drown them (in beer, of course). With festivities at more than 60 participating venues starting tomorrow, it's going to be one hoppin' week. Here are some of the events we're most excited about:
The folks at Snowdonia are honoring both Beer Week and 4/20 by dishing out "deep-fried, mac-and-cheese-covered and chocolate-enrobed snacks." The stoner-ific eats will be paired with drafts and cans from Sixpoint, SingleCut and KelSo breweries. Apr 20 at 4:20pm; pay as you go.
East vs. West: San Diego vs. Queens
Who will win this beer battle? Decide for yourself: Stop by Astoria Bier and Cheese on Broadway to taste the best brews from sunny San Diego, and then head to their Ditmars location for a sip of local suds. Apr 23 6–10pm; pay as you go.
Five Boro Craft Beer Fest
This all-you-can-drink tasting at Studio Square NYC includes more than 100 beers by 33 breweries from the New York area, such as Sixpoint, Rockaway Brewing and Big Alice Brewing, plus a performance by rock band Stolen Rhodes. Apr 25 7–11pm; $85.
New York Beer and Bacon Festival
Long Island City's Alewife will host two sessions of this suds-and-smoke feast, featuring chef Nick Nostadt's pig-roast exhibition, bites like stuffed suckling pig and bacon ice cream, and pours from 30 breweries (Bronx Brewery, Ithaca Beer Co). Apr 26 noon–3pm, 4–7pm; $50.
Queens Beer Week Closing Ceremonies
Celebrate the grand finale of the brewhound fest at Astoria hallmark Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden and witness the debut of its new house beer, crafted by SingleCut Beersmiths. Apr 27 noon–5pm; pay as you go.
