Bring the whole clan along for an evening at the “Family Garden,” a food-focused outdoor exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden endorsed by Eataly’s head honcho. At 5:30pm, guests will be taken on a guided tour of Mario Batali’s Kitchen Gardens, a special section planted with herbs and vegetables commonly used in Batali’s restaurants. Kids can also decorate a harvest bag and make their own salad dressing. Afterward, sit down at communal tables and dig into a three-course family-style meal designed by two of the most distinguished toques in the Batali empire: Mark Ladner (Del Posto) and Dave Pasternack (Esca). While you eat, the chefs will give live demonstrations, preparing selected dishes from the seasonal, Italian-inflected menu. Advance booking is recommended; tickets are available at pricelessny.com.
