Cherche Midi

Keith McNally's 2014 was off to a rocky start, with the shutterings of his Nolita pizzeria Pulino's and iconic bistro Pastis in the spring. But the king of Manhattan's downtown revival is coming back swinging, transforming the former Pulino's corner into this highly anticipated French affair. The revamped space still shows some unmistakable McNally elements—red-leather banquettes, globe lights, liqueur bottles showcased in cabinetry—as does the kitchen, led by Balthazar veteran Shane McBride and Minetta Tavern sous chef Daniel Parilla. The menu takes on classic bistro fare like frog's legs with green-garlic velouté and crisp parsley, bouchot mussels in basil broth with lemon confit and skate-wing meunière with an onion-fennel soubise; while the wine list expands beyond France with American and Italian varietals. 282 Bowery between Houston and Prince Sts (212-226-3055, cherchemidiny.com)
