I used to live in NYC via Staten Island and I miss my favorite macaron stores in your article. Thankfully in Sacramento we have Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates, who makes the best Parisian Macarons, as well as chocolates, ice cream, cake, hot chocolate, etc. -> https://www.facebook.com/gingerelizabethchocolates :-D

If you're in need of a treat today, strike out in search of participating bakeries throughout New York City that are giving out complimentary macarons in celebration of Macaron Day 2014. More than 20 shops, including Macaron Parlour, FP Patisserie and Bouchon Bakery, are offering one free sweet per customer until 5pm.
A nod to Jour du Macaron in Paris, the annual citywide event presents a delicious opportunity to chow down on the much-adored French confection. To sweeten the deal, a portion of proceeds from any additional macaron purchases will benefit City Harvest, an organization fighting hunger in NYC. Additionally, Francois Payard Bakery and FP Patisserie (both owned by the event's organizer) will sell Macaron Day aprons for $10 each, donating 100 percent of sales to City Harvest.
Visit the event website for more details and to map out your bakery crawl today. Bon appétit!
