Accented with ivory brick walls and cedar-wood floors, this elegant space welcomes models of all hair lengths and textures to come in for a complimentary blowout almost every Thursday at 9:45am or 10:45am. There's no preapproval required—simply book your appointment over the phone to get a shampoo and blowout (normally $50–$70) from an apprentice-in-training. Whether you want billowing waves or pin-straight locks, the skilled staffers won't let you leave the chair until every hair is in its rightful place. If you're satisfied with your 'do, consider taking advantage of the $45 cuts and single-process color apprentices offer on Tuesdays through Fridays (noon–8pm). • 212-255-3741, antonioprietosalon.com

Arrojo Studio

As part of its apprentice-training program, this ultratrendy salon owned by celebrity stylist Nick Arrojo has been offering free blowouts every Thursday (10–11:30am) since 2001. Each week the class concentrates on a different hair type and length; to receive a professional shampoo and blowout (worth $60) overseen by a master educator, call to be added to Arrojo's hair-model database. Someone will record your name and a description of your mane, and you'll be contacted on an as-needed basis. • 212-242-7786, arrojostudio.com

Bumble and bumble University

Professional stylists from all over the world flock to this well-respected academy to hone their technical skills, so you know your tresses are in good hands. The sixth-floor establishment has accommodated more than 12,000 blow-dry models over the past eight years. Fill out a pre-evaluation form online, and if your hair is suitable for the class, you'll receive a model call invite to come in for a final assessment. (Hair must be at least three to four inches past your shoulders, straight to wavy, and fine to medium in texture; those with thick or curly hair, short bangs or short layers are not eligible.) Approved heads will score a gratis shampoo and blowout (worth $65–$250), as well as enrollment in the Frequent Stylers Club, which allows you to earn "hair miles" every time you attend a blowout session that can later be redeemed for credit toward Bumble and bumble products. • 866-728-6253, bbumodelproject.com

Every Tuesday at 6pm, hair models receive a professional cleansing and blowout during the salon's apprenticeship program. Though there are no specific length or texture requirements, Fekkai's policy permits hair models only one gratis service every three months. • 212-753-9500, beafekkaimodel.com
