Even in a babyproofed apartment, little things—like your pocket change or a pen cap—can still wind up in an infant’s mouth. Our advice: Prep for the scary scenario while you still have free time. These centers offer training in infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (otherwise known as CPR). Classes cover safety basics, how to handle choking and CPR instruction. After a session, buy the “CPR Anytime” kit (available at shopcpranytime.org). It features an instructional DVD, reference guides and a baby-size mannequin, all of which make refreshing your sleep-deprived memory a snap. If none of our picks are convenient, contact your local hospital: Almost all sponsor courses.
