    Museum scavenger hunt

How fast can you find animals at the Met?

    By Alisa Stoudt

    Tiger

Let’s be honest: Most kids and adults find the Metropolitan Museum’s 2 million square feet of paintings, sculptures and artifacts more than a little overwhelming. Keep the entire family focused and entertained by turning your next tour into a game. Time Out Kids challenges you to track down animals in the art at the Met. You’ll hunt for wildlife ranging from lions and tigers (oddly, there are no bears on the list) to crocodiles and deer. Sans children, it took us an hour to check off the 12 beasts—all of which can be found on the first floor. We’ve organized the clues by wing and tried to lead you in a straight path through the galleries. The hunt works best with kids ages seven and up, but you can modify it for younger ones by narrowing the list or offering your own clues (“Warmer…warmer…colder…”) using our printable cheat sheet.

What are you waiting for? Download the clues, head to the Met, grab a map, and get started!
