    Time Out New York Kids / Issue 29 : Feb 15–Mar 15, 2008
    Bargain Bin

    Free dance & theater performances

At the 92nd Street Y’s biweekly dance series Fridays @ Noon and monthly Sundays @ Three shows, kids can catch debuts from up-and-coming choreographers, then stick around to talk to them. While Sunday’s show costs $10, Friday’s fare is free, so even if some of the stuff goes over your kid’s head, it won’t lighten your pocket. For details, visit 92y.org/content/92nd_street_y_harkness_dance_center.asp. Ages 10 and up.

No time to wait in line for tickets to the Delacorte? No problem. Beginning in May, New York Classical Theatre presents its annual Shakespeare show, which runs through Central Park—literally. Using nature as a backdrop, each scene is performed ten feet away from the last, so you have to move along with the actors to keep up. And it’s free. For details, visit newyorkclassical.org. All ages.

Good news for parents who love taking their tots to the Lucille Lortel to see favorite Theatreworks productions such as Junie B. Jones and Seussical: Come August, the kid theater company’s shows are free. To find out what show will be onstage this summer, visit theatreworksusa.org. Ages 4 and up.
