All-inclusive
Perhaps we have Ratatouille to thank: Kids’ interest in cooking is at an all-time high. At these spots, foodies-in-training get hands-on experience, enjoy the fruits of their labor and, if parents are lucky, might even become inspired to start packing their own lunch.
Top choice
Mini Chef
Created by a mom and her restaurateur husband, Mini Chef provides customized cooking parties that let kids have fun with food in partner restaurants such as Paradou in the Meatpacking District and Kelley & Ping on the Bowery (alternatively, they’ll bring the party to your apartment or a community room).
details During the two-hour event, kids make a dish from scratch, then watch a magic show while the food cooks. Packages include invitations, decorations, room rental, food supplies, a 30-minute performance and favors.
decor Balloons and decorations in the guest of honor’s favorite colors provide a personal touch.
eats Choose from Create-a-Cupcake, Pizza Workshop, Dim Sum and Fiesta themes. Kids eat what they make, while adults nibble on a breakfast buffet or wine and cheese. A cake decorated with your child’s favorite character (say, My Little Pony or Captain Underpants) is available for $150.
loot The goody bag is cooking-related; past selections have included cookie mixes with cutters and tot-sized utensils. Mini Chef aprons ($10) and T-shirts ($12) can be purchased separately.
damage Starts at $1,380 for 15 kids and 15 adults; $25 per additional child and $15 per additional adult.
