    Quizzical graffiti

    June Deuell

While Christo was preparing to wrap Central Park, James De La Vega was busy giving the Museum of the City of New York a very different kind of embellishment. To brighten up its exterior while the museum undergoes renovation, MCNY enlisted the barrio muralist to adorn the building's scaffolding with his graffitilike work. If only everyone liked De La Vega's work so much?in July, he was found guilty of vandalism after painting a Bronx wall without permission. "I would love to have my stuff in museums one day," he says, "but I also enjoy having my work in the street."?Sheila Callahan
