Baby Loves Disco
Take a childproofed nightclub, add a slammin’ soundtrack of tunes from the ’70s and ’80s and loads of parents with their kids (infants to four-year-olds), and you’ve got one of the coolest Saturday afternoon parties in town. Kids enjoy grooving to the beat, grazing on the healthy snacks and sucking on juiceboxes. You’ll get a kick out of watching them find their rhythm (or not) and downing a cocktail or two. • Club Element, 225 E Houston St at Essex St (212-254-2200, babylovesdisco.com); • Southpaw, 125 Fifth Ave between St. Johns and Sterling Pls, Park Slope, Brooklyn (718-230-0236). $15 per person; non-walkers free.
Divalysscious Moms
Yes, you’re a mom now, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up your fabulous prebaby lifestyle of readings, trunk shows, Pilates classes and the like. Divalysscious Moms was founded by Lyss Stern (hence the lyss in the outfit’s name), who felt “no strollers allowed” smacked of the teensiest bit of discrimination. Past events have included breakfasts at Alice’s Tea Cup for second- and third-time moms and a discount fashion show at UES shop Caravan. The Divalysscious Classport, launching this month, will give moms and their babies the chance to try out music, sign-language and movement classes around town. Various locations throughout the city; call 917-601-0068 or go to divalyssciousmoms.com. Free to $125.
Downtown Babies
Trendy bars might not be the first places moms and dads think to hit when on the town with their baby in tow. (Then again…) This social group will quickly expand your horizons with its bimonthly sojourns to lounges, restaurants and theaters in downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn. Your kids can never say you didn’t take them anywhere cool. Various locations throughout the city; call 212-217-2716 or go to downtownbabies.com. See website for prices.
Mothers’ Knitting Circle
Whether you’re an experienced knitter whose hands are so full with your newborn that you haven’t had a chance to lift a needle, or a novice looking for direction and inspiration, this group is for you. Babies socialize under the gaze of assistants while you get to scratch your crafty itch. 14th Street Y, 344 E 14th St between First and Second Aves (212-780-0800, 14streety.org). $80 for five sessions.
