Get in shape
Baby Boot Camp at West Side YMCA
A much kinder and less freaky-intense fitness program than its name implies, Baby Boot Camp takes you to the middle of Central Park for an aerobic workout that incorporates all that extra weight new moms lug around. We’re not talking about your thighs, silly! We mean that extra 30 to 45 pounds of baby and stroller you’ll be pushing along the three-mile step-and-jog course. 5 W 63rd St at Central Park West (212-875-4100, ymcanyc.org). See website for membership fees.
Karma Kids Yoga
What could be better than a class that strengthens and de-stresses at the same time? Karma Kids Yoga center in Chelsea offers Mom & Baby sessions that cater to parents of wee ones ages two months to crawling. Exercises for adults focus on the lower body and abdominal area (think downward dogs and sun salutes). Parents also learn massage and yoga positions for babies. 104 W 14th St between Sixth and Seventh Aves (646-638-1444, karmakidsyoga.com). $20 per class.
Sling-Your-Baby Dance
No experience is necessary for this 45-minute class, where you’ll strap on your baby marsupial-style (in a front carrier, that is) and, after a quick warm-up, learn simple dance movements. The closeness and motion are soothing to colicky little ones. • The Brooklyn Dojo, 93 Pineapple Walk at Henry St, Brooklyn Heights (718-237-0568, brooklyndojo.com) • 732A Carroll St between Sixth and Seventh Aves, Park Slope, Brooklyn (718-237-0568). $20 per class.
Strollercize.com
Think of them as new-mom muscles—the ones you’ll need to push a stroller and carry your baby around without fatigue (or, let’s get real, with less fatigue). Gently whip those bad girls into shape at an outdoor program for new moms and moms-to-be. Dads aren’t off the hook here; in fact, they get in for free with your membership. So put down the Cheetos and join up. Various locations throughout the city; call 800-978-7655 or go to strollercize.com. $155 for four classes.
