Camp Central Park
Jun 30–Aug 22. Mon–Fri 8:30am–3pm. Two-week sessions. Central Park Conservancy (212-348-4867, centralparknyc.org). Central Park Explorers and Climbing Adventures camps located at the North Meadow Recreation Center, midpark at 97th St. Subway: B, C to 96th St. Junior Naturalists program located at the Dana Discovery Center, Central Park North (110th St) at Fifth Ave. Subway: 2, 3 to 110th St–Central Park North; 6 to 110th St. $500–$550 per session.

Kids spend two weeks running around New York’s backyard while counselors channel all that summer energy into a variety of sporty activities. If your child has an especially short attention span, sign him up for the park’s Explorers camp, where the focus is only as narrow as “all things Central Park.” Also, every camper gets to jump in Lasker Pool at least once a week. Extended day care is available. Ages 6 to 11.
Junior Rangers Day Camp
Jun 30–Aug 15. Mon–Fri 9am–4:30pm. • Heron Park, Staten Island. Travel: From the Staten Island Ferry, take the Staten Island Railroad to Annadale. • Marine Park, Jamaica Bay, Brooklyn. Travel: Take the Q35 or the B46 bus to Fillmore Ave or the B9 bus to Flatbush and Fillmore Aves. • Inwood Hill Park, Seaman Ave at 207th St. Subway: A to 207th St. • Crotona Park, Bronx. Travel: 2, 5 to 147th St; or take the Bx11 bus to Claremont Pkwy–Crotona Park East or the Bx17 to Crotona Ave–Claremont Pkwy (212-360-2774, nycgovparks.org). $35–$65 per week, one-week minimum.
Kids can work toward Junior Ranger certification at this outdoor camp, where they can come once, once in a while or every day. Campers can earn badges every day by participating in activities such as canoeing, fishing, hiking and camping. Ages 8 to 11.
Queens County Farm Museum Summer Camp
Jul 7–Aug 15. Mon–Fri 9am–noon. Queens County Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Pkwy between Northern Blvd and Union Tpke, Floral Park, Queens (718-347-3276, ext 14; queensfarm.org). Travel: E, F to Kew Gardens–Union Tpke, then take the Q46 bus to Little Neck Pkwy. $90–$800.
The city’s only working farm offers this six-week crafts-and-nature camp. While your kids will come home smelling of barnyard, they’ll also know how to pitch hay and milk cows. Photography and cooking round out the offerings. Whether your little farmer wants to rough it for one week or for six, a flexible roster of camps provides something for everyone. For kids in grades 1 through 5.
Stone Barns Summer Camps

City kids who pine for country living get a head start at this Westchester camp. Younger Sprouts and Growers learn about farm operations, feed animals and build shelters, while Farmers discuss sustainability and put their green thumbs to use during gardening activities. Older Foragers become jacks-of-all-trades by mentoring younger campers, helping at the markets and learning about food policies. A new Farm 101 program gives kids of all ages a weeklong introduction to farm animals and fresh vegetable snacks. Registration is ongoing.
