The Baseball Center Summer Camp 2007
Jun 9–Sept 5. Mon–Fri 9:30am–1pm, 1–4pm or 9:30am–4pm. The Baseball Center, 202 W 74th St between Amsterdam Ave and Broadway (212-362-0344, thebaseballcenter.com). Subway: 1, 2, 3 to 72nd St. For full days: $520 per week or $120 per day. For half days: $325–$350 per week or $70–$80 per day.
Baseball lovers work on their pitching and sweeten their swing at these weeklong summer sessions. Half days for the younger set teach sluggers ages 4 and 5 basic baseball techniques, while players ages 6 to 12 take advantage of full days for maximum improvement. All groups train on both indoor and outdoor facilities. Pro players like Derek Jeter and David Ortiz have stopped by in the past. Special daily rates and weekly sign-ups mean participants get to choose exactly how often they attend. But be prepared: Payments are due April 15. Ages 4 to 12.
Basketball City Summer Camps

Hunter College houses Basketball City’s summer camps, which run weeklong sessions during the entirety of school vacation. Kids of varying levels are welcome at all the sessions, although the “FUNdamentals” program is designed with beginners in mind. Highlights include league games, skill contests, a camp tournament and appearances by NBA players. Ages 7 to 17.
Pine Ridge Equestrian Center Riding Camp

They might be smelly and large, but let’s face it, horses are just adorable. If carriage rides in Central Park don’t satisfy your child’s curiosity about these animals, Pine Ridge offers a hands-on camp specializing in all things equestrian. Little ones start on ponies, while more skilled riders can perfect their dressage abilities. Campers care for their own four-legged buddy and learn equipment handling and breed names. Other activities include arts and crafts, grooming competitions and scavenger hunts. Ages 7 to 16.

Popular kid destination Chelsea Piers runs summer sports camps for children of all ages. On the roster this year are one- and two-week sessions dedicated to gymnastics, rock climbing, golf, ice hockey, bowling and much more. Campers wind down with harbor cruises and get to meet pro athletes. Transportation and extended day care are available. Ages 3 to 17.
