    Time Out Kids Museum Membership Guide

    All NYC museums offer free admission to their members, but which cultural spot gives your family the most for your money each year?

    Brooklyn Museum
    200 Eastern Pkwy at Washington Ave, Prospect Heights, Brooklyn (718-638-5000, brooklynmuseum.org). Subway: 2, 3 to Eastern Pkwy–Brooklyn Museum. Wed–Fri 10am–5pm; Sat, Sun 11am–6pm; first Saturday of every month 11am–11pm.

    Suggested admission: $8, students and seniors $4, children under 12 free
    Friends and Family Membership: $85 (100% tax deductible) for two adults and four children under 13
    Benefits:
    • Unlimited free admission
    • Eligibility for early registration in the museum’s gallery and studio classes
    Contributor Membership: $150 ($135 is tax deductible) for two adults and four children under 13
    Benefits: Everything included in the Friends and Family membership, plus:
    • Brooklyn Museum art calendar
    • Reciprocal privileges to 26 art museums nationwide
    • Invitation to an exclusive behind-the-scenes family event with the museum curators

    Children’s Museum of the Arts
    182 Lafayette St between Broome and Grand Sts (212-274-0986, cmany.org). Subway: J, M, Z, N, Q, R, W, 6 to Canal St; 6 to Spring St. Wed, Fri–Sun noon–5pm; Thu noon–6pm.

    General admission: $9, seniors and children under 1 free. Thu 4–6pm pay what you wish.
    Membership: $200 ($125 is tax deductible) for two adults and all children in the household
    Benefits:
    • Unlimited free admission
    • 10 percent discount on classes and birthday parties
    • Invitations to select members-only events and private artist studio tours
    • Quarterly newsletter
    • 10 percent discount on registration for Wee-Arts classes for children ages 10 months to 3__ years (does not apply to drop-in program), after-school classes for children ages 4 to 10, and art Colony Classes for children ages 6 to 12

    Children’s Museum of Manhattan
    212 W 83rd St between Amsterdam Ave and Broadway (212-721-1234, cmom.org). Subway: B, C to 81st St–Museum of Natural History; 1 to 86th St. Tue–Sun 10am–5pm.

    General admission: $9, seniors $6, children under 1 free
    Family Membership: $210 per year ($125 is tax deductible) for two adults, two caregivers and all children from the household
    Benefits:
    • Unlimited free admission
    • $10 discount on Gift Membership purchases
    • 10 percent discount Mon–Fri at EJ’s Luncheonette (447 Amsterdam Ave between 81st and 82nd Sts)
    • Reduced enrollment fees for CMOM classes
    • Subscription to Nick Jr. Family Magazine
    Friend Membership: $295 per year ($175 is tax deductible) for two adults, two caregivers, grandparents and all children from the household
    Benefits: Everything included in the Family membership, plus:
    • Exclusive registration for performances
    • Five admit-one passes
    • 5 percent discount on all CMOM birthday parties
    Supporter Membership: $395 per year ($240 is tax deductible) for two adults, two caregivers, grandparents and all children from the household
    Benefits: Everything included in the Friend membership, plus:
    • Ten admit-one passes
    • A Family Membership gift to a family-in-need through CMOM’s Family Access Membership Program

    Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
    1071 Fifth Ave at 89th St (212-423-3500, guggenheim.org). Subway: 4, 5, 6 to 86th St. Mon–Wed, Sat, Sun 10am–5:45pm; Fri 10am–7:45pm.

    General admission: $18, students and seniors $15, children under 12 free. Fri 5:45–7:15pm pay what you wish.
    Membership: $135 for two adults and all children under 18
    Benefits:
    • Unlimited free admission to all Guggenheim museums (New York, Venice, Berlin, Bilbao, Las Vegas)
    • Invitations to special workshops
    • Discounts on or free entry to all public family-orientated education programs
    • Invitation to the Family Holiday Benefit

    • Subscription to Guggenheim magazine

      I would like to see the museums come up with one package membership that allows families to save money getting into ALL museums, not just one. It's hard to live in the most culturally rich city in this country and not be able to take your children to museums because it's prohibitively expensive.
