Children’s Museum of the East End

Interactive exhibits entertain kids on a rainy day at this Suffolk County kids’ museum

With Memorial Day quickly approaching, your thoughts may turn to booking a Hamptons getaway for the family. Picture yourself lounging under a beach umbrella while the kids build a three-story condo in the sand. Bliss. But what happens if, once you get there, it starts to pour—and doesn’t let up all weekend? Don’t pull out your emergency stash of DVDs just yet; instead, head over to Bridgehampton and the Children’s Museum of the East End.

When my husband and I visited with our four-year-old daughter, Peyton, she was off and tearing through the interactive Musical Forest exhibit before we could even get her jacket off. She tried out the various instruments that were mounted on a “fallen” log, and made animal sounds while pretending to be a creepy-crawly creature on the rainbow-hued mats.
