Celebrate Mother’s Day in New York

From pampering parties to sweet serenades, activities around the city give moms the recognition they deserve.

    By Christy Purington

FREE Willowtown Fair Sat 10 noon–6pm. Willow Pl between State and Joralemon Sts, Brooklyn Heights (willowtown.org). Subway: N, R, W, 2, 3, 4, 5 to Court St–Bourough Hall.
For moms who covet century-old pendants and antique teacups, a leisurely walk through the Willowtown Fair & Flea Market is a great way to spend the day. While kids have their faces painted and clown around in the games area (at 2pm), parents can browse potential treasures and listen to bluegrass tunes. All ages.

Children’s Sushi Cooking Class Sat 10 1–3pm. Sakae Sushi, 405 Lexington Ave, enter at 43rd St between Lexington and Third Aves (212-286-8868, sakae-sushi.com). Subway: 42nd St S, 4, 5, 6, 7 to 42nd St–Grand Central. $60 per team (one child and one adult), $35 for each additional child.
Kids can forgo serving pancakes in bed this Mother’s Day, and whip up a spider roll for mom instead. “My First Hand Roll Sushi” class teaches youngsters some of the techniques behind Japanese food preparation and then lets them (and you) taste their concoctions during a personalized fish feast. Ages 6 to 12.
