    We got the beasts

From toddlers to tweens, kids can’t resist animals. If your brood squeals over lowly pigeons and subway rats, it’s time to check out these less-contagious critters we found within the five boroughs.

There are just two lions (real ones) in the city; you’ll find them both at the Bronx Zoo.

Some are fuzzy and awww-inspiring. Others are creepy and gross. A few are so rare that even adults may ask, “What is that?” There are critters you can touch and others you wouldn’t want to. And for all those Wednesday and Pugsly Addams types, we’ve even dug up a selection of dead animals. Chances are there’s a zoo, nature center, aquarium, pet shop or farm (it’s true!) right in your neighborhood. So grab your safari hat and get ready to explore the urban jungle.
