Fourth of July weekend activities in NYC

Celebrate the Red, White and Blue with patriotic parties around the city.

    By Christy Purington

FREE American Revolution Quiz Show with Ken Davis
Fri 4 at 2pm. New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West between 76th and 77th Sts (212-873-3400, nyhistory.org). Subway: B, C to 81st St–Museum of Natural History; 1 to 79th St. The best-selling author of the “Don’t Know Much About…” series hosts a trivia game of American facts that will challenge grade-schoolers and parents alike (here’s a freebie: John Adams was the first President to live in the White House). Afterward, George Washington, Ben Franklin and other impersonated founders will greet visitors as bands play throughout the afternoon. Ages 5 and up.

    FREE American Music Festival
Fri 4 at 4pm. Lucky Mojos, 5-14 51st Ave between Vernon Blvd and 5th St, Long Island City, Queens (718-786-7427, luckymojos.net). Subway: 7 to Vernon Blvd–Jackson Ave. Brooklyn honky-tonk band Sean Kershaw and the New Jack Ramblers jam at 4pm until the fireworks show begins at 9:30pm. Southern fixins, Tex-Mex grub and traditional New Orleans eats will satisfy everyone’s cravings. Kids under ten eat for free. All ages.

    Fourth of July Cruise
Fri 4 at 5:30pm. Battery Park, Pier 3, south of West St at Battery Pl (877-523-9849, statuecruises.com). Subway: R to Rector St; 1 to South Ferry; 4, 5 to Bowling Green. $85, children under 13 $65. Enjoy the fireworks extravaganza as your family sails past Lady Liberty—it doesn’t get more patriotic than that. Refreshments are available for purchase, and a DJ keeps little ones awake and dancing until you dock around 11pm. Ages 4 and up.
