As an OB, what has surprised you about pregnancy?
SL The lesson I had to learn was that I couldn’t control it. I found out I was having a boy and I was just really shocked, because I’d always thought I was going to have a daughter.
What unique challenges do New York women face in pregnancy?
SL In general, they are just crazy busy and work really long hours. My life is really filled up with my career, friends, family and my husband. It’s a challenge when I think of having a baby and where that’s going to fit into my life.
How has it been for you, Preston?
PY I’m definitely getting an education. She’s on top of every little thing; she probably takes a sonogram every day as soon as she gets to the office. I’m currently reading about four books—I’ve already finished two on how to be a perfect father.
Where are you most eager to take your son?
PY I can’t wait to take him camping in the country.
Suzanne, do you worry about your pregnancy, even though you tell patients not to?
SL It’s hard because I see a lot of wonderful things happen and I also see some not-so-nice things happen. I try to remember that the statistics are with me.
Who will deliver your baby?
SL It will be one of the other OBs in my practice, Downtown Women Ob-Gyn Associates—so we’ll see who’s on call!
How did you decide on the baby’s name?
PY My mother gave me that name and I think it’s a cool one, so we’re rolling with it.
