Time Out Ratings
Rating: 3/5This solo disc from Bradford Cox of Atlanta’s Deerhunter dials down the noise in that band’s combative electropsych attack and replaces it with loads of thick organ ooze. The result is dreamy and unfailingly pretty: “Recent Bedroom,” with its trippy guitar arpeggio and drowsy drum-machine shuffle, refracts “Come Together” in a manner that calls to mind Panda Bear’s treatment of Pet Sounds on his Person Pitch, while “Ativan” might well show up someday in a spot for the prescription tranquilizer it’s named after (without its lyrics, anyway). Unable to leave loveliness alone, Cox contrasts these sonics with detailed descriptions of nausea and “bite marks all over your back.” But unlike a Deerhunter record, Let the Blind allows the squeamish to tune out the nastiness.—Mikael Wood
