Once again, the city becomes a movable ode to Bird for a weekend in August. Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park welcomes alto firebrand Oliver Lake's big band on Aug 21 and a killer bill featuring organist Dr. Lonnie Smith, vocalist Andy Bey and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts on Aug 22. On Aug 23, the fest heads to the East Village’s Tompkins Square Park, which Parker used to overlook in the 1950s from his apartment on Avenue B, with a handsome lineup, featuring saxists Joe Lovano and Rudresh Mahanthappa.

I´m already there... closing my eyes and feeling the bird all around. Floating in the park, with the taste of the air, the rain, the fog... mesmerized by every single feeling this master´s music feed me with. Oh I´m already there...

Gives you every reason to travel uptown. Great venue, mellow crowd, world class musicians, jazz legends, all for free. Be glad you stayed in the City this weekend. Come out and celebrate summer and America's original art form. Hope this becomes a tradition.
