Even with Katy and Gaga duking it out for chart domination, and Janelle Monáe working overtime to corner the auteur market, there’s still no one out there quite like Cherie Currie. Fueled by a love for Bowie and groomed by infamous industry man Kim Fowley, her brand of bubblegum sass—“Cherry Bomb,” people!—now seems like a lost art. Currie recently duetted with Glenn Danzig in L.A., and she’s been recording hooky, hard-driving new material with classic-era Guns N’ Roses members. But ballsy versions of Runaways classics like “Queens of Noise” are still her bread and butter.
