Gathered together for this annual John Coltrane birthday celebration are five potent beneficiaries of his example. Eric Alexander and Mark Turner share the pivotal lead-horn assignment. Pianist Steve Kuhn played in Coltrane's group prior to McCoy Tyner's arrival, and recalls its lessons well. Lonnie Plaxico offers the steady bass hand; drummer Andrew Cyrille is ideally suited to summon the late Elvin Jones's thunder.
