The Juilliard Opera mounts a double bill of disparate, seldom-encountered English one-act masterpieces, both based on mother-and-child relationships. Curlew River, the first of Britten's three church parables, is an eerie resetting of a Japanese noh drama; Riders to the Sea, by Vaughan Williams, transforms John Millington Synge's play of the same name into a spare, haunted tragedy.
