For more than two decades, protean saxist and composer Donny McCaslin has relentlessly expanded his musical purview in a variety of ensemble settings, both as a sideman and as the pilot of his own diverse groups. The tenorist’s 2015 album, Fast Future, openly drew influences from electronica composers like Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada and Venetian Snares; here, McCaslin reconvenes two of the bandmembers on that disc—pianist Jason Lindner and drummer Mark Guiliana—while swapping out bassist Tim Lefebvre for Nate Wood.
