The band that practically invented the notion of "alternative rock" plays its last gig of the year at Terminal 5. Still touting last year's fourth record—there was a gap of 13 years between LP Nos. 2 and 3—The Great Escape Artist is a spaced-out opus created with TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek on bass guitar. It's a savvy move on frontman Perry Farrell's part, garnering a slice of neo-indie cred for a band that includes Dave Navarro, a rock crocodile who gets taken about as seriously as Steven Tyler. Still, there's no doubt ol' snake-hipped Farrell will be pulling out all the stops tonight.
