Trust me, this series just started and the noise is a BIG issue now that it's nightfall. I'm across the river in NJ...a freaking MILE away... and having trouble getting my child to sleep it's so loud. This cannot continue. I've already received several petition emails.
JBL Live at Pier 97, a new outdoor venue, is coming to Manhattan’s West Side
A new waterside concert space is set to open in NYC early this summer, with shows from Robyn, the Fray and more
Thu Apr 10 2014
Today is one of the first days where we can really feel it: Summer is coming. Along with good weather comes the city's jam-packed summer concert schedule at outdoor venues galore—including the just-announced JBL Live at Pier 97, set to open in early summer. A partnership between Live Nation and Harman International, the riverside concert space already has the Fray (July 9), 311 (July 19), Michael Franti and Spearhead (July 21), and Robyn and Röyksopp (Aug 20) confirmed. Tickets go on sale Friday at noon via Ticketmaster.
JBL Live at Pier 97 can host 6,000 concertgoers and is located at 57th Street and the West Side Highway, just a few blocks from the 3,000-capacity Terminal 5. The seasonal spot will be open until September or October, depending on weather. Its less-than-catchy name comes from JBL, an audio-entertainment store in midtown. Stay tuned for more information on the rest of the lineup, and don't forget—outdoor concerts means outdoor drinking is near, too.
In case this news makes you wonder about that other waterside venue, Pier 26 unfortunately won't be reopening this year. The lower-Manhattan spot hosted bands like fun. and Empire of the Sun last summer, but will not be returning for another go, due to noise complaints from nearby residents. As you can see from the rendering above, JBL Live at Pier 97's venue faces the water, so noise (hopefully) shouldn't be an issue.
