When she hit town in the ’70s, Joanne Brackeen quickly established herself as a pianist well versed in the avantish side of jazz piano, then went on to become the first and only woman to be a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. Here she plays three nights at Mezzrow, starting with a solo appearance Feb 12 and continuing Feb 13 and 14 with duet sets featuring esteemed bass veteran Cecil McBee.
