Savage Philly combo Man Man is perhaps best evaluated on the strength of its ebullient live performances—it specializes in caterwauling bohemian bar chants dispersed into rambling indie-pop landscapes. The early work of the outfit is unapologetically hairy, and each subsequent release has been increasingly melodically sharp, with last year's On Oni Pond being no exception. Opener Xenia Rubinos sets the tone, splitting the difference between Tune-Yards–like vocal experimentation and gleeful jazz fusion.
