Mogwai’s 2010 album, Special Moves, a live release filled with classic tracks issued to coincide with a live DVD of the same name, reintroduced fans to the five-piece Glasgow outfit they had worshipped since 1995. Yet curiously, last year's Hardcore Will Never Die, but You Will, Mogwai’s first full-length studio effort since 2008’s The Hawk Is Howling, lacks nearly all of the fervor Mogwai has built its reputation on. The record replaces bangers with lullabies, and puts sweetness where one would usually expect screaming feedback. Admirers of Clams Casino and Burial should arrive early for Balam Acab, a.k.a. wunderkind PA producer Alec Koone.
