Nick Oliveri is, to put it mildly, a loose cannon. (And we don't just mean onstage; last summer, after resisting arrest for domestic-violence charges, the former Queens of the Stone Ager engaged an L.A. SWAT team in an armed standoff.) Tonight the bassist-vocalist—who's currently working with his ex-Kyuss bandmates in Vista Chino, and is rumored to be appearing on an upcoming QOTSA LP—hits Greenpoint with his blood-curdingly raw hard-rock outfit Mondo Generator. Also on board are meat-and-potatoes Oakland retro-metalists Saviours and rugged doom-metal lifer Scott "Wino" Weinrich, last heard at Saint Vitus supporting a beautifully stark folk-oriented collaboration with fellow guitarist-singer Conny Ochs.
