New England Conservatory stages a two-night concert series honoring its venerable Contemporary Improvisation program, which celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. On Mar 21 at Barbès, pianist Anthony Coleman and reedist Ashley Paul curate an intergenerational improv summit. In the spirit of the program, the list of participants—including Matt Darriau, Frank London, Cuddle Magic, Mat Maneri, Andrew Hock and Judith Berkson—spans the jazz, indie pop, metal and experimental realms. On Mar 23, the festivities move uptown to Symphony Space, for a show featuring a similarly impressive array of talent: Ran Blake, Dominique Eade, the Claudia Quintet, Christine Correa, John Medeski, Anthony Coleman and Eden MacAdam-Somer.
