"I had just flown in on the red-eye from California, where my new band, the Ghost of a Saber Toothed Tiger, had been touring briefly. I walked into my house at 5:30am and found a disposable camera sitting on my kitchen table with a Post-it note that read, 'Please take photos for Time Out.' I decided to go for a walk and take some pictures instead of giving in to sleep. It was too early to see people going to work, and too late to see them leaving the clubs: the perfect hour. An orange-soda sunrise sent glaring grids of gold onto the concrete. I noticed how beautiful my girlfriend looked, her hair still messy from rubbing against an airplane seat. She grabbed the camera and took a picture of me standing behind a mountain of garbage. We went home and fell into bed like two stones in water."
