Spring preview 2012
Les Fleurs de Shanghai
This music-and-burlesque night of vintage va-va-voom, featuring the delectable trio of Calamity Chang, DeeDee Luxe and Shien Lee, reconstructs a version of the Paris of the East. Duane Park, 157 Duane St between Hudson St and West Broadway (212-732-5555, duaneparknyc.com). Wed 29 at 7:30pm; two-drink minimum.
The Bunker presents Sandwell District Showcase + Juju & Jordash + Morphosis
The electronic-music-oriented Bunker has been going from strength to strength lately, and this early-spring session of deep and creative techno merely supports that trend. Public Assembly, 70 North 6th St between Kent and Wythe Aves, Williamsburg, Brooklyn (718-384-4586, publicassemblynyc.com). Sat 2 at 10pm; $20, advance $15.
Verboten and the Dog & Pony Show: Radio Slave + Stacey Pullen + Catz 'N Dogz + Wildkats
A pair of techno's elder statesmen, Matt "Radio Slave" Edwards and Detroit's Stacey Pullen, team up with some of neodisco's finest for one of the best lineups of the spring season. The Morgan, 25 Bogart St between Cook and Varet Sts, Bushwick, Brooklyn (347-227-7304, themorganbk.com). Mar 17 at 10pm; $TBA, advance $25.
Night of a Thousand Stevies: Dreams Unwind
This annual salute to Ms. Nicks, launched in 1991 by Chi Chi Valenti and Johnny Dynell, is the world's largest such gathering, with hundreds of Stevie acolytes donning their finest leather and lace. Highline Ballroom, 431 W 16th St between Ninth and Tenth Aves (212-414-5994, highlineballroom.com). May 11 at 9pm; $25.
Let's Play House: Kasper Bjrke + Cosmo Vitelli + Marcos Cabral
Bjrke's moody, woozy synth music, Vitelli's buzzy electronic disco and Cabral's tuned-in techno and house add up to a night of sublime rhythms. Loreley Williamsburg, 64 Frost St at Meeker Ave (718-599-0025, loreleynyc.com). Mar 23 at 10pm; $30.
No. 19 Label Showcase with Art Department
Opposites attract: The spare, ghostly house produced by Canada's Kenny Glasgow and Jonny White, together known as Art Department, should be a perfect match for Cielo's warm, welcoming sound system. Cielo, 18 Little W 12th St between Ninth Ave and Washington St (212-645-5700, cieloclub.com). Mar 8 at 10pm; $TBA, advance $20.
