Former Sonic Youth singer and guitarist, Ecstatic Peace! cocaptain, underground booster and so-much-more man Thurston Moore kicks off his Stone residency on NYE. At 8pm he's joined by downtown avant-garde guru and saxist John Zorn, and later he commandeers a dazzling double bill, including a 10pm team-up with tireless bass legend Mike Watt (Minutemen, Stooges, etc.) and iconic hardcore-era visual artist Raymond Pettibon and an 11:30pm set from Moore's shaggy art-punk project Chelsea Light Moving. (The room only fits 75 people, so get in line early.) The gigs later in the week look just as promising, as Moore turns up with heavy players such as drummer Marc Edwards (Jan 1); trumpeter Nate Wooley (Jan 2); and fellow SY bandmates Steve Shelley and Lee Ranaldo (Jan 3 and 4, respectively).
