Tyshawn Sorey Residency

During the past decade, Tyshawn Sorey has made major waves in the jazz community, due both to his head-spinning drum chops and his staunchly enigmatic compositional vision. The heavyweight cast he's assembled for this residency shows you just how far his reach extends. He kicks off the run July 29 in the company of avant-jazz piano master Marilyn Crispell (the pair play as a duo at 8pm and in a trio with bassist Mark Helias at 10pm), and continues July 30—at 8 and 10pm respectively—with duo sets with guitarist Todd Neufeld and pianist Matt Mitchell. Other sets feature esteemed veterans Dave Burrell and Henry Grimes (July 31), and noteworthy collectives Paradoxical Frog and Fieldwork (Aug 1 at 8 and 10pm, respectively).
