Vaura features members of two of NYC's most challenging avant-rock outfits—Toby Driver and Kevin Hufnagel, of Kayo Dot and Dysrhythmia, respectively—but this project takes a more straightforward route. Vaura's recent debut, Selenelion, features potently melancholic gloom rock, with wiry prog-metal undergirdings. Local outfit Sannhet does crushing yet atmospheric instrumental metal in the Russian Circles vein.
