Art for film's sake
Fri Apr 20 2007
This Wednesday, downtown movie theaters will be buzzing as the Tribeca Film Festival gets under way. Nearby, a certain under-the-radar art space will be enjoying some extra attention too: For the run of the festival, Gallery VietNam will house artworks by Chuck Close, Nan Goldin, Kiki Smith, Joseph Kosuth and other VIP contemporary artists rarely shown south of Chelsea. Visit the show while you can: After May 6, these paintings, prints and sculptures (all donated by the artists) will be promptly taken down, and gifted to the top 13 moviemakers in Tribeca.
Gallery VietNam, 345 Greenwich St at Harrison St. Daily noon--7pm. Wed 25--May 6.
