Dance Theatre of Harlem
Thu May 3 2007
Dance Theatre of Harlem and its Volunteer Parent Group host a benefit to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Firebird, featuring choreography by John Taras. Sadly, there won't be any actual dancing of the ballet (though R&B artist Freddie Jackson will perform); the evening will include a cocktail reception and a silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Dance Theatre of Harlem School and scholarship program—a worthy cause. DTH is still on hiatus, but without trained dancers in place when the nightmare is over, there won't be a company worth watching. The details: May 7 at 6pm, SONY Atrium, 550 Madison Aven between 55th and 56th Sts (dancetheatreofharlem.org). $100, $150.
