Life imitates art

If you caught the Night of Too Many Stars telethon on Comedy Central last night, you saw Susie Essman and Larry David engaged in an epithet-fueled shouting match à la Curb Your Enthusiasm. Basically, Larry criticized the telethon and made neurotically insensitive comments, and then Susie dressed him down with steel gloves.

The fight was for charity—along with the night’s other hilarious sketches, it helped raise close to $3 million for autism education—but the tiff at the Mandarin Oriental after party was simply real life.

Allow us to paraphrase:

Comedy Central staffer: Excuse me, Mr. David, would you mind if I took a photo with you?
David: Ech—I can’t. There’s too many people around…it would start a thing…and then everyone else…I just can’t.
Essman: Goddamn it , Larry, just take the fucking photo!”

He didn’t, but at least the staffer got a story.
