New SNL cast members announced!
Wed Sep 2 2009
Rumors that two new female cast members would be joining the Saturday Night Live ranks have been confirmed to MTV News by Bill Hader, and guess who's representing? New York City, suckas!
Jenny Slate, one of the soon-to-be stars, is not actually a native New Yorker, but over the years she has become a darling of the independent comedy scene in our fair city with her one-woman show at Upright Citizens Brigade, a weekly improv gig with Gabe Liedman at Rififi and, most recently, a starting slot in Williamsburg's Big Terrific showcase (which TONY just happened to call the best new variety show of 2008). She also had a chance to impress NBC execs in person with her turn as Jimmy Fallon's assistant in the parody sitcom "7th Floor West." She's joined by fellow newcomer Nasim Pedrad, a Groundlings alum whose one-woman show, Me, Myself & Iran, was a hit out in Vegas. (Take that, Christopher Hitchens!)
The new season of SNL kicks off September 26 with host Megan Fox and musical guest U2. In the meantime, the fame-launching (and completely free) Big Terrific continues tonight at Cameo, where Leidman and Max Silvestri will try to keep the laughs coming without their funnywoman-in-residence. Check it out, because you never know who could be next in line for a call-up to the big leagues.
