Relax here: Drop-in meditation and Buddhism class
Mon Jan 4 2010
If you've been moping around, awestruck at the speed with which your precious holiday break came and went, maybe it's time to give your brain a push in a more positive direction. Find some assistance from the I.D. Project (302 Bowery between E Houston and E 1st Sts, third floor; 917-675-7151, theidproject.org), a nonprofit organization that combines basic meditation workshops and lectures with other creative get-togethers, like writing groups, drawing classes and museum tours.
Tonight, Ellen Scordato, chairwoman of the I.D. Project's board and part-time English Language Studies faculty member at the New School, will be leading a discussion group called "Exertion: Putting Practice into Practice in 2010" (7--9pm, $10 suggested donation). Her talk will focus on the philosophical, psychological and ethical fundamentals of Buddhist meditation—and more importantly, how all of that fits in to our busy sensory-overloaded 21st-century urban lives.
Well, that's your brain sorted out. Now, how about your body?
