Relax here: Robert Tahar art opening
Thu Apr 15 2010
Head out to Williamsburg tonight for a little culture, class and, best of all, free food. Two month-old Mode Bistro (116 N 5th St between Bedford Ave and Berry St, Williamsburg, Brooklyn; 718-384-0303, modebistro.com) will be hosting a free cocktail reception from 7--9pm this evening for resident artist Robert Tahar.
Tahar's large abstract paintings, which feature swirls, splashes and streaks of bright color, will be on view until August, and they are hung throughout the space as a soothing complement to the chic oak bar and spacious dining room.
Owner Olivier Morange, who met Tahar in L.A., plans to host more of these open house-style art exhibits, rotating artists every two months. Appetizers like mini crab cakes and roasted scallops will be served along with free beer and wine. And if the nibbles strike your fancy, why not stay for dinner? The kitchen will remain open until 11:30pm.
