The write stuff
Tue Jun 5 2007
Andy Warhol once quipped about critics, "Don't pay any attention to what they write about you. Just measure it in inches." That yardstick got a bit longer last year, when Creative Capital and the Andy Warhol Foundation launched their Arts Writers Grant Program, the first-ever such program dedicated exclusively to the genre. The online application for the next round of grants will be open from August 6, 10am EST, to September 12 at 4:59pm EST. Mark your calendar, test that cell phone alarm and start mulling over that "it'll never happen" dream project again. While they're not giving away $71.7 million—the staggering price Warhol's painting just brought at auction—they will grant $3,000--$50,000 per award, depending on the proposed project, from book form to short-form (this 1,000-words-or-less category is new this year). A few caveats: You can't write about Andy Warhol or your own art, and (sorry, newbies) you have to be over 24.
