Fans of British designer Matthew Williamson came out last night to shop and celebrate the launch of his first diffusion line within his own brand (Williamson previously did a lower-priced capsule collection in 2009 with retail giant H&M). Hosted by fashion website Refinery29 (refinery29.com), the fete took place at the designer's Meatpacking District boutique—the only place to currently purchase the line. A DJ decked out in pieces from the collection was on hand as New York's most stylish set drank cocktails courtesy of Belvedere Vodka and munched on bite-sized, rainbow-colored cupcakes from Baked by Melissa. While not offered at H&M price points by any means, Williamson's more trend-driven, lower-priced collection costs significantly less than his regular line—which boasts day dresses that average $2,000 and blouses for $800—and looks every bit as wearable. Standouts include dark skinny jeans with leather details ($275), cropped knit sweaters ($260) that will pair perfectly with floral pleated mid-length skirts ($325), and outerwear, such as tie-waist cropped puffers ($540) and leopard brocade coats ($615). We're expecting to see the cheeky beetle-print scarves ($245) around the necks of the fashion-forward come fall.
