Anyone who doubted that an FTM pageant would be a runaway hit was probably pretty shocked on Sunday when they showed up to check out the event and were turned away at the door! The transman showdown from berhost Murray Hill and Original Plumbing publisher Amos Mac had sold out in advance. Those who got it were serenaded by talents including SF hip-hop artist Katastrophe and queer Brooklyn band Inner Princess (whose bass player, Becca Blackwell, strutted her stuff in Murray's last contest, the LEZ Pageant). And they got an eyeful from contestants, who presented their platforms ( "Fisting as Foreplay" and "Bringing Back Emo and 1990," for example); their swimsuit-clad bods; their talents; and their answers to various questions from the well-equipped judges: Our Lady J, Kate Bornstein, Amos Mac, the World Famous *Bob*, Glenn Marla and Susan Hair (creator of Dapper Q). While Khane Kutzwell was runner-up and Princess Tiny & the Meats won Mr. Congeniality and "realness," it was Kit Yan who won the Mr. Transman title.
