SweetSmoothHot mustard at SchoolHouse Kitchen
In a city chock-full of artisan food makers, hand-hewn mustard isn't hard to come by. But this superlative condiment from Gowanus outfit SchoolHouse Kitchen is our favorite find this year: tangy and potent enough to dot on a pretzel, but so sweet and rich we've eaten it spread on toast. Fitting, given that salted butter is its secret ingredient. Various locations, visit schoolhousekitchen.com. Pack of four (online) $22, 9.25 ounces (at Whole Foods) $4.99.

Spekuloos spread at Wafels & Dinges
Ground with the Belgian gingerbread cookies known as spekuloos, this buttery spread resides in the sweet spot between peanut butter and Nutella. The stuff is as good on toast with jelly as it is melting into a sugary Belgian waffle. Visit the truck's Twitter feed (@waffletruck) for daily locations. Jar $7, on a waffle $5.
