Best French for the masses: Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecte

Advertising

Reading a menu in a foreign language can be intimidating—especially when that language is French. For Gallophobes who fear encountering that mythical snooty matre d', we have a solution. Entry-level French food is what you'll find at Le Relais de Venise, a family-friendly Parisian chain that we imagine is that country's answer to Applebee's—with far better food. The service is friendly, there's no wait to get in, and what's more, you don't even have to read the menu—this place serves one meal only: steak frites and salad. The beef is cooked perfectly to order, the fries are crisp and starchy, and the price tag is low: $24 for two courses, which includes two servings of steak. Once you've mastered Le Relais, you'll be ready for escargots.  590 Lexington Ave at 52nd St (212-758-3989)
