Carol Hazel—who put in time at beloved-but-shuttered uptown refuge Arcadia—comes out of kitchen retirement to focus on seafood-heavy small plates at this Crown Heights canteen. In the subway-tiled dining room, the chef gives New American fare a jolt of global flavor: red-pepper prawns with sautéed plantains, seared scallops with white-and-yellow corn pastiche and lobster-stuffed mac-and-cheese balls with béchamel sauce. The trim entrée list features composed dishes like arctic char with shallot polenta and winter pasta with jumbo shrimp. Local live bands, like Brooklyn blues outfit People vs. Larsen, play nightly next to the front bar, where bartenders pour a mix of classics (Sazerac, stinger) and riffs: A Moscow Mule update features fig vodka with house-brewed ginger beer.
